POETRY 03 - A PASSAGE TO ETERNITY

A PASSAGE TO ETERNITY

on  a  cold  and  crisp  winter  morning  ,
when all  the world is  flat and  snoring
i rise  to the stillness  of  silence ,
at  the dawning  of  renewed  vibrance .
i  set  off cycling  in  pursuit of true  introspection ,
lonesome  on a  road  with  no interception .
vast  crop  fields enveloped in a blessed  calm,
waking up to glimpses of the sun's glowing  charm .
peasants gearing up to  til the earths  soil ,
flights of birds in merriment not having to toil .
dance of the wind in exhilarated mood ,
all in a day  to relish and to soothe
my transient  body moving on the cycle of wheels ,
while the self merges into the now moment (absolute -shunya ) it scarcely  feels.

SPIRITUALITY 01 - MEANING OF VEDANTA

        MEANING  OF VEDANTA

Studying Vedanta means studying your own being/ existence , or studying your own silence..It doesn't mean studying your thoughts , your emotions ..that is psychology..
You can only dwell in your being , or study your silence if you are not overawed by the form..
Rishis , Munnis , Sayyams are untermukhis..They study the existence , silence of their being..they have control over their senses, and dwell more in the inner being.( Like  scientist studies matter, or the doctor studies medicine, or the psychologist studies the mind, so the Rishis, Munnies and Sayyams study their inner being .. that is the distinction in the two realms of Form and Spirit.)
They have no attachments...attachments is not a need , it is a disease,  an ignorance,a  phenomenon, created in the  heart.
Saamanya means normality..the very word brings about a feeling of comfort...or harmony.
When the cook is cooking in the kitchen, the man has gone to work , to his job, and the wife is tending to household duties, all this is called saamanya, or normality , which gives a feeling of comfort..likewise , kartavyas, or duties  and ones responsibilities have to be carried out and fulfilled , in order to be in harmony..When one does one's duties with devotion , then one derives great peace and harmony  these are prerequisites to reaching your goal ..realising the truth..
Do not accumulate wealth...It will create disharmony...instead spend it in the right things..towards making you , your family, your children , your friends , your dependents happy and comfortable for their essential needs and survival..
Dharma, in the olden times meant carrying out your religious duties diligently....in today's times it implies more on the connotations of being a good  and an  honest human being..with compassion towards your family , friends and all  around  you  in your environment .
Charity begins at home, goodness should begin at home..by attending to all your duties  and responsibilities diligently , there will be harmony.. and as a karmayogi, if you also dwell inwards to gain inner growth ..then your goal in life Will  be achieved.

A TRIBUTE TO MY FATHER

A TRIBUTE TO MY FATHER. .

I often reflect on life and the  world ,  and I see this  as a cosmic  drama , where we all play a part but we write our own scripts in accordance with our  individual karmic plan  .  When our part is over  , we exit  the stage , and  the drama  goes  on.
Having said that , I feel dad  wrote  a beautiful script for himself , as is evident from  having lived  a life enriched  with honour , fame ,  joy  ,  passion , humour and affection .
                   X--X -
This is a  very sad and a  defining moment which  one dreads the most in life , but one must face  it   with all the grace and fortitude as it is governed by a  divine plan , in a perfectly synchronized universe.
                    X----X---X
the loss of  a  father is a huge  loss  which is absolutely devastating  and leaves  one heart broken ,  but there are silent sentinels within us , that protect  and guide  us through difficult times .Today  while in a somber yet composed state  of mind , I  wrote a few lines on my father .

Dad  enjoyed the good fortune of having lived a very  honorable and illustrious life .
The  name  Gen  Gurinder  Singh  is   synonymous with the Armoured Corps and the  Indian  army ,  notwithstanding.
His high moral values ,  character and integrity made him what he was , ' an exemplary human being.
He was always known for doing everything  with  great  passion and  his  attention to detail was remarkable , even if  it meant  a  trivial  thing like  writing a letter of complaint to the local RWA  , or wrapping a birthday present  , it was done with utmost   perfection.
His compassionate and endearing nature made him very popular amongst all who Knew  him .
He was  a  doting husband , a caring  father and a loyal friend .
We derive solace  with the thought that despite being hospitalised for two days , he didn't suffer , and his passing was instant and painless.
Let us in this solemn  moment  pray for everlasting peace of his soul .

HISTORY/GEOLOGY 01 - DALHOUSIE

GEOLOGY AND TOPOGRAPHY- DALHOUSIE -CHAMBA- BHARMAUR
When you reach Pathankot, you have arrived close to the foot of this magnificent mountain range called the ' Dhauladhar ' , or Outer Himalaya. During a  breathtaking journey, you encounter Pine, Oak, and Deodar trees, of the Coniferous varieties, leaving behind cactus, tangled maze of barbery, and other plants and trees of semi-tropical vegetation. Almost the entire expanse of the oblong shaped Dhauladhar is clad with coniferous forests from end to end , save the iced toppings.!
On the approach from the  plains, the first rock strata met with are the Tertiary series of the Shivalik area, composed of Sandstones and Conglomerates.
The main range of the Dhauladhar is composed of an igneous rock called Gneissose granite. In Dalhousie, The granite ends on the western slope of Tehra (Moti Tibba), where it comes in contact with Silurian Slate. Orographically, it terminates at the Ravi river.
Half way between Khajjiar and Chamba, the northern margin of Granite is also in contact with Silurian rock strata, consisting of Micaceous and Quartsoze schists and slate, some of them near Chamba, which are being used as good indegenised roofing and flooring material in this region since prehistoric times of yore.
The  origin of this range dates back to the end of the Eocene, or the beginning of the Miocene division of the Tertiary period, when it actually erupted., before the existence of mankind  over two million years ago.
On the Paangi road near Masrund, Carbo - Triassic rocks are met with , composed of Blaini Conglomerate in two bands, separated by trap and limestone.
Legend has it that the rivers always flowed at their present levels , the reason being that the rate of elevation and erosion have always been constant.
An interesting theory is widely accepted in Chamba, that the Raavi once flowed over the Chaugan ,( formerly the state Polo ground, and currently the parade ground), however , very shallow, and there were stepping stones to the temple of ' Hari Rai ', near the telegraph office. That it did so is certain but not in the human age ,  at least two million years ago..

POETRY 02 - ODE TO MY MOTHER

'Ode to My Mother'
My mother so gentle and kind,
Her heart so pure and sublime.
My mother so thoughtful and giving,
Her promises ever so fulfilling.
My mother so beautiful and bright,
Her countenance glows in the night.
My mother a fount of compassion and divinity,
She will remain resplendent and blissful till eternity.

SPIRITUALITY 02 - ViPASSANA - A SPIRITUAL INSIGHT

VIPASANA.--  Fundamental Principles
# noble silence # tongue-tied # larynx lost and found # breathtaking # rustic aravalis

Vipasana is the  choiceless observation of reality as it exists .
Its objective is  to attain  total perception of the  mind - matter phenomenon. The highest level of awareness.
Observation of Breath is the technique applied in this form of  meditation.
Vipasana is a process of 'liberation through self purification ' .
Founded , evolved and perfected by   Gautama  Buddha  in 5th  century BC.
Dhamma means  universal law of nature ', as you sow , so shall you reap and so on..
Focus on the breath and observe it  -
the attention is fixed between the tip of the nose and the upper lip forming  a  triangle..

The practise of  Vipasana entails following Sila - the noble eight fold path , samya samadhi -control of the mind and paana - purification of mind  through wisdom and insight .
It teaches you to work with your sensations  objectively , with equanimity and acceptance , which will take you to the deepest levels  of the sub conscious mind , in pursuit of dissolving accumulated samkaras - past actions - sanchit karmas from its roots.

The hunan being is an eternal cosmic entity - a reflection of the universe . as the entire universe is dynamic energy in a constant state of flux  made up of sub atomic particles vibrating at their own signature frequencies , so the human being within the framework of body -mind -intellect is also a complex product  of sub atomic particles , a combination of the four fundamental elements , lifetrons , and cosmic energy.
The human mind houses the six senses , which are quantum players , in  contact with the physical world . The eye sees beautiful objects, animate or inanimate , the nose smells pleasant fragrances and so on .
All these create sensations in the mind , and if entertained, manifest as desires , cravings and finally attachments or samkaras.
The stockpile of  samkaras / past actions - dross accumulates in the lowest layer of the mind  - the subtle body .
With the practise of Vipasana you reach out to these samkaras which will  surface as  gross sensations at the physical level .
with due diligence ,  objective observation  and perfect equanimity , they will be dissolved.
While in  progress  be mindful of the universal law of impermanence in the universe.
To spread awareness of Vipasana and SHARE your joy derived from its practise to as many people  possible ,  is one of  the prime teachings - maitriya mangal .
Performing Maitriya Mangal is a pre. - requisite to  a  Sadak's progress on this path.
The process of self purification could span from one to umpteen lifetimes depending on the intent and seriousness of purpose. Gautama Buddha gifted to this world '' Bhavna O Panya '' , which means practical wisdom to be followed not at the intellectual level but at an experiential level.

While navigating this dimension may you attain  supremacy  over mind and matter .

SPIRITUALITY 03 - CHAKRAS

    CHAKRAS  - THE ENERGY SYSTEM

The first two chakras ( root  and sacral ) relate to your desires , feelings and emotions..they are passive chakras governed by earth and water elements respectively.. The yin energy...opening of these chakras will build up your desires and emotions , and your third chakra which is the solar plexus chakra of  the fire element , relates to your power , will  , drive and determination..opening of this chakra will give you the will power and the energy to get into action to fulfill your desires and emotions...governed by the fire element , it is the yang energy which transmutes matter into energy and  overcomes inertia,.like particles collide and combine , states of matter are changed, solids change to liquids , liquids change to gas, flour and eggs become cake, and so on.... All this happens when the third chakra kicks in and produces energy and power.
Fire is the transforming influence that can destroy form and release energy.
The sun is a shining example of transformational fire and could even be called a macrocosmic third chakra.
The sun produces heat and light through nuclear fusion.
The first three chakras are the lower chakras of earth , water and fire elements and govern and control the functioning of matter/ body. The next four chakras are the higher chakras , of  air and ether elements , which govern and control the spirit and  mind.
Opening ,  balancing and optimizing the working  (in tandem) of all  chakras is vital for body - mind - spirit synergy.
